AmFAR Propaganda: Young, Black and Beautiful = AIDS

The inherent racism of the AIDS paradigm is on display in AmFAR’s advertisements for invisible and insidious waiting death, among the young, dark-skinned and beautiful:

This good-looking young man is strong and handsome beyond belief. But, says AmFAR, he’s probably going to get AIDS. Why? Because he’s just too damn black not to:

This smiling, lovely girl is “the new face of HIV,” we’re told by AmFAR. Young, healthy and full of spirit. Not sick in the least. But, says AmFAR, she’s Hispanic, so we’ll throw her into the AIDS hole:

This beauty is too good-looking for words. Will she escape the clutches of the dreaded death-sex monster? “No,” says AmFAR, she’s beautiful, alright, but darn it, she’s black:

The message again and again from the AIDS industry:

Young, healthy African-American and Hispanic individuals, just starting their lives, should suspect that they are secretly cursed, and though healthy, invisibly and irrevocably compromised – permanently infected – and hiding a deadly, infectious, darkly sexual secret.

Paging Thomas Malthus, anyone? Calling the old Eugenic society out of slumber?

But what AmFAR – the American Foundation for AIDS Research (via celebrity fund-raising) – won’t tell the young, black and beautiful, is that HIV tests are a farce. They don’t work, they don’t test for anything particular, and do come up positive for six or seven dozen conditions, including drug use and pregnancy. (And they’ll leave out the Padian study too, I’m sure).

AIDS isn’t a problem of sex. It is a problem of institutional poverty, homophobia and racism.

If AmFAR really believed it’s message, this would be the new, and permanent face of AIDS:

Thanks for trying to continue/start a dialogue regarding the inherent racism in AIDS/Testing campaigns. When the DC numbers came out - and then similar numbers in other cities like Dallas, I wrote the Dallas Voice and was pleased that they published the article.

I am floored that more journalists don't question the outrageously disproportionate statistics. It makes no sense with regard to epidemiology.

Anyway, keep it up,

Thank you Matt,

That's a terrific conversation you started at the Dallas paper. Yes, the racism is palpable - it's institutional, it's endemic, it's old and invisible. It's so clear it's hard not to think that it's entirely intentional.

But, I think the intention on the part of most or many of the AMfar-ians is to do something 'helpful' for 'black folk.' They just happen to buy into the latest Eugenic craze - blaming poverty, and diseases of poverty worldwide, on the sex of...you guessed it, 'black folk.'

It's subversive racism - tribalism, really. It's Old Testament in nature. It's the chosen people versus the rest, all over again. And to be chosen these days, well...if they're not chasing you with the tests, then you're 'outside the risk groups.' It's just that straightforward.

It ain't the sex, it's the color. Test 1,000 white suburban sexually active co-eds and you'll find? Well, we don't test that population. It is strongly and strictly cautioned against throughout the medical literature: "Do not test people who are not in 'risk' groups; they're test results will be false, and they'll throw off the 'reliability of the tests.'

They say it again and again, so you know they aren't screwing around. They mean it. And that's how these advertisements come to be.

sick sick sick...
How does the pharmaceutical industry get away with telling brown and black Americans that they're physiologically different from white Americans? Anyone who knows anything about viruses knows that they are equal opportunity pathogens. The only way any virus would affect them differently is if minorities were of a different species.

Kaiser and defense contractor Lockheed-Martin promote the hysteria and then offer their highly addictive and deadly cure - for a price. While that might be good for "shareholder value" it has nothing to do with public health.

I personally just see this as Liam Scheff putting words into the mouths of the people writing the campaign. Why can this not just be seen as it was intended? As a campaign of awareness in those communities? Is it because Liam Scheff believes that African Americans and Hispanics are not worth as much as Anglo Americans? To me, looking thru the eyes of a black man, I see this as further proof that Liam Scheff and now by extension, Celia Farber, are just racist individuals pooling their resources to further marginalize African Americans and Hispanics. Who will be next? Asian Americans? Then who?

"Awareness". What the fuck does that mean? If it had any real meaning in this situation, it would include awareness about the tests, and how they test for nothing in particular. It would also include the Padian study, which, in a sane world would have been the last word on "transmission". Yes. Let's talk about "awareness".

Instead, the "awareness" we receive, is that for no readily explainable reason, there are human beings who've been selected as 'risk groups'. It's racist and homophobic.

Marcus, are you high?!

Read between the headlines.
If those women being shown are supposed to be either heterosexual or lesbian, then the makers of those ad campaigns need to wake up and smell the coffee: those are not risk groups. The heterosexual pandemic warning was officially cancelled by the WHO and I'd love to see one case of lesbian to lesbian "transmission." Give me a break. The only possible reason for such an ad campaign (excluding ignorance) would have to be some sort of racist agenda. Marcus Johnson, please wake up.
